“I will persist until I succeed”
Og Mandino

I really like this quote. I know I’ve brought it up before in my previous student success statement but it’s because it’s what I’m doing at the moment. I’ve been working out to lose weight and before when I said I would lose weight, last year, I said I would next Monday but that Monday never seemed to come. This year I made it a goal to lose weight and lately I’ve been successful and I will continue to do it I will persist until I succeed. I want to get back into shape and hopefully by 2015 I would have lost at least 30 pounds or more.
Perfusionist

Duties and Responsibilities:
Perfusionists operate circulation equipment during medical situations. This will occur in heart surgery or similar operations. They are also checking the patient’s temperature during surgery. Their duties include:
·         Operating heart-lung machines
·         Checking on some types of anesthesia
·         Checking on some types of medication for the patient.
Average Salary: $50,000
Educational Requirements:

Students should take biology and chemistry in high school if they are interested in being a perfusionist. A high school diploma is required. The training is offered at universities, health centers, and medical schools. They usually do hands-on training. A length of 150 procedures to include 20 pediatric and infant cases.

I don't think I would be interested in being a perfusionist because it doesn't capture my attention. I didn't understand what exactly a perfusionist does. I also wouldn't like to be it because it seems like a boring career for me.

“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
President Calvin Coolidge
30th president of US (1872 – 1933)

I’m not entirely sure what this quote has to say. However, I do know that in life you will fail time after time but the best thing to do is keep going. I think it’s kind of like losing weight. It won’t happen after night just like your stomach didn’t just grow after night you have to keep pushing and pushing even when you feel like there is no results you just have to keep pushing. That is what is happening to me right now, I feel like I haven’t made any progress and I feel like I’m failing and working out but many people have said I’ve lost weight already. It made me feel good. People think just because they don’t see the results that it isn’t working for them and quit but they shouldn’t they should just keep moving forward until they’ve gotten to where they want to be.
Patient Representative

Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient representatives work for healthcare administrators to inform concerns and special needs of patients and their families. They make sure they are aware of the patient satisfaction, investigate their complaints, collect information about patient dissatisfaction, work with departments to resolve patient problems, and to educate the staff. They often work in hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and public agencies.
Average Salary: $20,000 - $40,000
Educational Requirements:
If you are interested in being a patient representative you should take business, science, math, and English in high school and preferably AP.

Some will want college graduates with a background in health or social service.

This seems something I would be interested in but first I would like to do a little more research and possibly visit a campus that has this as a class and see if it is what I would really like to do.

“Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement.”
Matt Biondi

I agree with what Matt Biondi said. When I was in middle school I didn’t graduate with the class. I felt like a complete failure. I made sure when I entered high school I will be able to walk on stage with all of my friends. I am now a senior at Linda Marquez High School and right now I am qualified to graduate. I know if I keep doing well in school I will be graduating with all my friends. I was determined to leave the past behind and to at least succeed in high school since I didn’t get the chance in middle school. I don’t want to feel that again. The sadness of not being able to walk on stage with all my friends so high school will be and achievement for me.

I wouldn't like to major in this career cause it doesn't interest me at all.

When I was helping out at the blood drive on February 13, 2014 I felt happy knowing I'm apart of the process. I think it was a really great opportunity to be apart of it because I get a little taste of what the medicine field is going to be like. I also faced my fear of watching other people with their blood hanging on a bag, I was still a bit scared but I was glad to know I can face it. As I was taking care of the people who had just donated blood I got to know what their perspective was about donating blood. Some people felt great about it after others felt the same but were feeling sick. That's were I come in and make sure they get help. It was a crazy morning but I enjoyed being there helping the students and staff and also getting to see what other field there are in the medical field so now I know there are not just doctors and nurses I can look into other medical careers. I am not sure if it's the last chance I'll be able to help out in out school but I'm glad I was at least apart of this one.

“No student ever attains eminent success by simply doing what is required of him/her; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.”
Charles Kendall Adams, American Historian

I believe this quote is true. Yes you can have success when you accomplish whatever it is you are doing the correct way but if you do it the correct way and a little something extra is better than doing it the correct way because you get to learn things and you have determined to beat yourself in doing something. Take for example basketball if you just practice until practice is over you will be good at it. But if you practice when practice is over and you continue to push yourself to be better than that right there is accomplishing something that you put the time and effort in which will make you a better basketball player instead of a good basketball player.

“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you. Never excuse yourself.”
Henry Ward Beecher

You should never hold others responsible for you failure. If you failed it was because of yourself and no one else. If you hold a high standard for yourself it can impact your lives in ways you wouldn't imagine. Let’s say on of your standards is to never settle for less. It’s not that you are money hungry or want everything you could ever want but instead it’s to provide for your family, to ensure you won’t end up in the streets or in a broken family. Also having higher standards means you can outdo yourself and it feels good to outdo yourself. You will feel better about yourself and would motivate you to achieve everything you want. Making excuses won’t get you anywhere it will just stay at the back of your mind wondering what could have happened if you done things differently.
Ophthalmic Technician

Ophthalmic Technicians are responsible to collect data and measurements to make sure you have correct diagnosis of treatment for eye diseases and problems. They work at hospitals, clinics, and some can work in private practice. They are often:

Average Salary: $14,000 - $25,000
Educational Requirements:
If you are interested in being a ophthalmic technician you will need a high school diploma or GED certificate as well as a two year college that begin ophthalmic training. It can take about two years to complete.

I wouldn’t like to choose this as a career only because I do not like to perform nor assist in surgery. I’ve said it before I feel as if I will pass out during the procedure.

“Goal setting is goal getting. Set and get.”
Mark Victor Hansen

If you set your goals you will most likely reach them. Having a reminder of your goals is a good motivation because you don’t try to succeed them you would feel bad. For example last year I had said I’m going to lose weight but since I didn't write it down or have a calendar to decide when the days I will exercise I kind of just let that go. This year I've made some bit of progress because I decided the days I will exercise and my rest days. I also made a chart of what I will eat so that I don’t go overboard on eating. By the time summer comes I will have hopefully made great progress and when 2015 comes along I hope to be in the best shape of my life.
My Progress on reaching my goals is going good. I have been losing some bit of weight not as much as I want to lose already but if I continue to do what I am doing I think I can reach that goal in a few months. I also have been reading quite a few books. I finished four books these past two weeks. I'm going to the library again to go get some new ones. Also my goal towards graduating is getting there. I just have to keep coming to school, do my work, and ask for help if I need it. I still haven't gotten to learn how to play "River flow in you" on the piano because I don't have one. A friend of mine actually has a piano at home so I'll see if he can teach me that song since he was the one who taught my how to play the scientist.
Operating Room Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:
Operating room technicians can also be called surgical technicians. They help set up operating rooms for surgery. They prepare the stuff they need like needles, bandages, fluids, etc. They assist the doctor’s by handing them the surgical instruments they need and when the operation/surgery is done the operation technician takes the patient to the recovery room.
Average Salary: $16,000 - $22,000
Educational Requirements:

A GED or high school diploma is required. Many junior colleges or vocational schools offer the operating room technician classes or you can train hospitals. It takes about a year or two for this program. Students who want this as a career must pass the examination by the association of surgical technologists to be certified.

I wouldn't like this career only because you have to help give the doctor's equipment when in surgery and I don't really like seeing blood. I feel as if I will pass out if I do see it.
