Oriental Medicine Practitioner
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oriental
medicine doctor’s use acupuncture and treatment through qi. Qi means energy.
They treat many things such as headaches, back pain, arthritis, etc. Their
techniques include acupuncture, cupping, acupressure, and herbal supplements
that are applied in certain body parts or tissues. They must be able to
evaluate a person’s symptoms and know what organ or tissue is causing the
problem and organize a plan to help treat it with herbs.
Average Salary: $50,000 - $61,000
Educational Requirements:
If
you are interested in this career you would have to be licensed as a physician’s
assistant and then take classes to become certified oriental medicine. Most earn a Bachelor’s degree in biology and
after go onto fill state requirements to practice oriental medicine. You would
also have to do some hours as an intern then take an exam to become certified
through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
