Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical laboratory specialists
include both technicians and technologists for clinical laboratory specialist. Both
technicians and technologists perform laboratory work to identify, diagnose,
and treat diseases.
The clinical laboratory
technicians use microscopes, laboratory equipment, chemicals and computers to
do laboratory procedures. They collect blood specimens and prepare culture
media as well. They do lots of tests and prepare reports for the clinical
technologist.
The clinical technologist
does more complex laboratory test and procedures than the technicians. They supervise
the technicians to make sure they are doing thing properly and confirm their
tests.
Most clinical laboratory specialists
work in hospitals, but they can also be employed by private practices, medical
groups, research laboratories, etc.
Average Salary: $25,000
- $40,000
Educational Requirements:
Students should take the more complex classes such as
science, math, and English in high school.
A bachelor’s degree is required in this field, although some
employers will accept an associate’s degree and extensive clinical experience
as a substitute.
I wouldn't like to be a clinical laboratory
specialist it doesn't capture my interest.
